Yoga is not for the “flexible”, it’s for the willing

yoga pose, yoga retreat

Yoga, in many ways,  is a reflection of your life—it is often, during my practice that I realize what it is that I am avoiding or resisting. My mat has become my “realest” mirror. Learning to be comfortable in uncomfortable situations is one of the things yoga teach us. You will often hear teachers say “The pose you avoid the most, you need the most” I remember rolling my eyes at this at the beginning of my yoga journey. Now I know, that’s a true story. ⠀

.⠀

You must breathe through the pose, be okay with where you are, and know that if you accept it, and allow your body to get stronger, moving into more advance poses (jf that’s your goal), it’s only a matter of time. What you thought it was impossible, is now possible. ⠀

Getting rid off your perceived limitations and moving away from your comfort zone will not only allow you to advance your yoga practice or whatever life is throwing at you,  but it will also build mental fortitude that will lead to being able to thrive in any given situation— whether it’s a back bend, divorce or breakup, an arm balance, illnesses or being able to stay still during savasana.⠀

Learning to be present on the mat has led to being more present in real life. So next time a pose feels "too hard" and want to get into child pose, stay present, accept where you are and feel your body soften and open the possibilities.
